A community approval vote is now open for members of Curve Lake First Nation on a Per Capita distribution funds of the 1923 Williams Treaties Settlement Agreement.
The online vote began September 21, 2018, using One Feather voting system . Members have 3 options to select from. The options are: in favour of 100 per cent, in favour of 80 per cent and in favour of 50 percent of the settlement funds. According to band members of Curve Lake First Nation who wish to remain anonymous, said they voted in favour of 100 per cent distribution of funds because they feel it’s the right thing for them and it was the them who suffered the effect of neglect on both sides of the government regarding the Williams Treaties.

An information meeting scheduled for September 29, is mainly for members to receive feedback from the community since the May 19, meeting when members were told the treaties were settled with both governments.
The official vote, even though many have already cast their ballot online, is scheduled for October 27, 2018. All members must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the vote. For those who are not 18, their funds are held in trust until age of majority.
Those who don’t vote online can cast their vote at the October 27 vote from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, or mail in their ballot to the Community Approval Vote Officer.
